Professional Development Hours and Eligibility
Professional development hours (PDHs) are an alternative measurement unit for continuing education activities. Related professionals, SLP and audiology assistants, and others may receive PDHs.
PDHs from ASHA Professional Development courses apply toward ASHA certification maintenance. You should check with other authorities (such as state license boards or departments of education) to see if they recognize PDHs.
How ASHA PDHs Are Calculated
Record Keeping Requirements
- One PDH equals 1 hour of instruction.
- ASHA PDHs are rounded down to the nearest half hour.
If you earn hours in any form other than ASHA CEUs, you must keep the following documentation on every activity in which you participate:
- copy of a certificate of completion/attendance
- copy of the college transcript (if appropriate)
Your documentation must include the following information on every activity in which you participate:
If your chosen activities do not provide this documentation, you may use the Verification of Attendance Form
[PDF] to keep track of the hours.
